Here's what you need to know to plan for your Intensive week:

Expectations

In return for the 35-hour Intensive experience, participants are expected to commit themselves fully to the week and to the growth of West Coast Swing. This includes:

Be Present

  • Attend the Intensive fully (not arriving late or leaving early)

  • Turn off communication devices during training days

  • Demonstrate excellent teamwork and partnering

  • Work and communicate effectively with others in the Intensive (including fluency in the English language)

Be Vulnerable

  • Try everything that is asked of you; listen, ask questions, and be vulnerable in the learning process

Share yourself with others; support others in their journeys

Push through difficulties and perceived limitations

give back and grow

  • Take your new knowledge and skills back to your community as a teacher and promoter

  • Continue to pursue excellence in the dance and as a community builder

  • Be a positive and supportive influence on others

costs

There is no charge for the 35 hours of instruction. Participants are responsible for these costs:

  • Travel

  • Lodging

  • Meals

location

The Intensive is held at You Can Dance Dallas, 14833 E Inwood Rd. Unit 600, Addison, TX 75001, USA

This is a beautiful, large studio with a floating wood floor and excellent air conditioning (you will want to bring a sweater and/or light jacket).

schedule

All participants are required to attend the complete Intensive, as follows:

Monday-Thurs 8:30am-5:30pm and Friday 8:30am-11:30am, with a one-hour lunch break each day. It is highly recommended to get to the studio early each day, especially if you will be driving as Dallas traffic can be heavy. Doors will be open before 8am, giving you time to get situated.

The Studio has a local Friday night dance. This is optional but it’s a great way to unwind from the week, be social, show our studio hosts some love by supporting their event, and spend one last night with the people you've grown so close with during the week.

** If some personal/professional circumstance will limit your ability to fully attend, please let the pro teaching your week know and the organizers will have a discussion with you and the instructor to determine the best course of action.

airports

You can fly into either of the two airports:

  • Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL) - 20-25 minutes from Intensive

  • Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) - 25-30 minutes from Intensive

transportation

Once participation in the Intensive is confirmed, we'll connect you with the others in your session via a private Facebook group. Within the group, you may find locals who can give you a ride to/from the airport, or others with whom you can split a taxi, rideshare (Uber, Lyft), or rent a car.
